Description
English: Side view drawing of the Baldwin 4-2-0 locomotive Martin van Buren, built in 1839 for the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad. (Although the source labels this as Baldwin's 1834 locomotive Lancaster, the construction number 125 visible on the maker's plate in the figure is that of the Martin van Buren. This figure matches a Baldwin lithograph of this same locomotive, reproduced as Fig. 108 on p. 275 of John H. White, Jr.'s A History of the American Locomotive: Its Development, 1830–1880 (1979).)
