English: This concrete building at 4763 (sometimes 4765) Ballard Ave was built about 1914 to house Ballard's first Ford dealership, Fairchild, Higgins & Matthews. Fairchild left the partnership in 1917 and in 1919 the firm relocated to a new building on Nickerson Street at the south end of the Fremont Bridge, leaving Ballard without a Ford dealer for several years. After Higgins & Matthews' moved out, the W.S. Dulmage Motor Co., a Chevrolet dealer based on Pike Street in Capitol Hill, opened their Ballard branch here. Less than a year later they were replaced by the branch of another Capitol Hill Chevrolet dealer, the Whitley Motor Co. but their stay would too be brief before a new Ford dealership, Wilson & Kreitle Inc. was established and moved into the building in 1921. In 1923 they relocated to a new larger building at 5320 Ballard Ave where, later known just as Wilson Ford Co., would remain for decades. Since the mid-1930s this building has been occupied by the Ballard Sheet Metal Works, which has been in business on this block since 1907.
