Summary edit

Description
English: Ballygiblin Quarry 40% of Ireland is underlain by Carboniferous Limestone and this disused quarry is just one of many exploiting the rock for roadstone. But the special feature of this quarry is the red splodge on the left side of the buttress. This is clay filling an ancient cave passage in the limestone. Pollen grains in the clay show that the cave is about 30 million years old (Oligocene Period) and that the landscape in this area has changed relatively little in all that time.
