Description

British Railways Brush Type 4 Co-Co class 47/4 diesel-electric locomotive number 47404 Hadrian of Gateshead TMD passes Bamber Bridge Station signal box on the Up East Lancs line with a Carlisle to London Euston train (1A17). Sunday 8th May 1983

Bamber Bridge Station signal box is located by the Up East Lancs line alongside Station Road level crossing, and is a Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway non standard design (it is a standard design but with a flat roof) fitted with a 12 lever Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Tappet frame which opened on 7th October 1906, replacing an 1873-built signal box located diagonally opposite across the level crossing. On 5th November 1972 the frame was replaced by a British Railways London Midland Region individual function switch panel and the box was reduced to a non block post supervising the adjacent level crossing only after signalling passed to Preston power signal box. The level crossing gates were replaced by lifting barriers 11th November 1973 and the signal box was refurbished and rewindowed with uPVC cladding and windows in March 2010

The signal box carries a British Rail corporate identity printed design nameplate
