Description

A Agência foi instalada num edifício pertença do Banco, situado no Largo 9 de Julho. Mais tarde, por falta de condições para o regular funcionamento dos serviços, o Banco resolveu proceder à venda do imóvel ao Estado, comprando um terreno às portas de Mértola destinado à construção de um edifício de raiz.

O projeto foi assinado pelo arquiteto Manuel da Rocha Casquilho iniciando-se as obras em 1942, tendo sido inaugurado em 16 de Julho de 1948. O edifício, situado na confluência de duas vias apresenta uma estrutura regular em pedra destacando-se a sua entrada principal, marcada por pilastras estilizadas, encimada por uma pequena varanda e rematada por frontão recortado. Ao nível do primeiro andar, as janelas apresentam varandas recuadas. O edifício está dividido por pilastras em pedra em toda a fachada principal e fachada lateral esquerda, apresentando três pisos que são bem destacados na sua zona de frente e esquina pelas pilastras e pelo facto de cada piso ter um tipo de janela.
