editDescriptionBantam Folly - geograph.org.uk - 1479549.jpg |
English: Bantam Folly The English Heritage guide book says that the exact date of the building is uncertain, but it was in existence 1769. The detail is Georgian Gothick , with a crenellated parapet and a quatrefoil, or four-lobed, window opening into a pigeon loft, so possibly it was a utilitarian farm building that was subsequently adapted to provide a feature in the landscape. Until the mid-20th C it sported a wooden spire, which made it resemble a church. Beyond and to the left of the building is an Iron Age hill fort. |
