In 2015, the most common non-English language spoken in Essex County, MA was Spanish. 14.4% of the overall population of Essex County, MA are native Spanish speakers. 1.25% speak Portuguese and 0.78% speak French, the next two most common languages. When compared to other counties, Essex County, MA has a relatively high number of residents that are native Mon-Khmer, Cambodian speakers. In 2015, there were 4,809 native Mon-Khmer, Cambodian speakers living in Essex County, MA, approximately 9.26 times more than would be expected based on the language's frequency in the US more broadly.
