English: Bark DIAMOND HEAD at anchor, Washington, ca. 1900
Description
English: She was formerly knows as the British ship GAINSBOROUGH. After wrecking near Honolulu, at Diamond Head, in 1896 she was sold, salvaged, and renamed DIAMOND HEAD (p. 8). She was used as a whaling ship by Tyee Whaling Co., but was converted to an oil barge in 1911 (p. 193). She was purchased by the Union Oil Co. in 1913, and sailed the route between San Francisco and Honolulu (p. 225). She was last used as an oil storage barge at the Seattle City Light steam plant on Lake Union, finally being burned and cut up for scrap by the Puget Sound Bridge and Dredgin Co. in 1950 or 1951 (p. 576).
