| Description |
English: Barley-straw boom across the lake, The Vyne, Sherborne St John. At SU634567. There has been a problem with blooms of algae on the lake, and barley straw is supposed to prevent this due to a chemical that it releases as it decays. Here the straw, in netting sausages, is being tied to a silt trap made of sheet piling. To the left are the piers of an iron bridge that collapsed in 1986. The material has been saved in the hope that it can eventually be re-erected. |
