Italiano: La basilica di Santa Croce, chiesa francescana in Firenze, è stata ricostruita da Arnolfo di Cambio nel 1294. Vi sono sepolti i grandi e potenti di Firenze, da Michelangelo, Rossini, Macchiavelli ed il pisano Galileo Galilei, ma solo 95 anni dopo la sua morte perchè fu condannato dall'Inquisizione e che, quindi, non poté avere una sepoltura cristiana fino al 1737. Vi è anche un monumento commemorativo a Dante, ma il suo sarcofagoo è vuoto (è stato sepolto a Ravenna, dopo il suo esilio da Firenze).
English: The basilica of Santa Croce, a Franciscan church in Florence, was rebuilt by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1294. The great and powerful of Florence are buried here, by Michelangelo, Rossini, Macchiavelli and the Pisan Galileo Galilei, but only 95 years after his death because he was condemned by the Inquisition and therefore could not have a Christian burial until 1737. There is also a memorial to Dante, but his sarcophagus is empty (he was buried in Ravenna, after his exile from Florence ). |
