| Description |
English: Basterfield House, Golden Lane Estate The Golden Lane Estate, sandwiched between Golden Lane and Goswell Road, was built in the 1950s by the City of London in an area that had been devastated in the blitz. The intention was to provide council housing for people working within the City and, although many of the flats are now privately leased, it still partly fulfils that role today. The design was considered ground-breaking at the time and was in many ways a precursor to the better known Barbican immediately to the south. In total the estate houses about 1,500 people. |
