Description
Dansk: Bataillen d. 2 April 1801, paa Kiøbenhavns Reed
English: The battle of Battle of Copenhagen on 2 April 1801. The scenery is shown as seen from the tower of "Vor Frues Kirke" ("Our Lady of Copenhagen", the Copenhagen Cathedral). The battle at around 13:00 hours. The Fortress Trekroner [Three Crowns] is located in the upper left of the picture flying a flag, in front of Trekroner is the smaller fort "Lynetten". The flag ship Dannebrog is the burning ship in the centre. Features still visible today: The Flag, Dannebrog, flying from the Sixtus battery: This is the "Flag of the Kingdom" (and flown here from 1788 to today). The mast crane of Christian IV (the white building to the centre-left of the picture) and the fortification line around the naval base Holmen, including the Redan line. Both still exist. This version "may" have been used by Christian August Lorentzen for painting his version of the battle.
