, began todraw, at times stopping to rest and whistle. Her mother, overhearing this variation,asked what she was doing, and received the reply, Why, Im whistling, so that I candraw. Dr. Bimmer whistles when he draws. He went with a friend one day to a New-York art-store to see a half-life-sizepicture of a male figure. He looked at it for about two minutes, and said to his com-panion, Come away, B. : the position of the figure is an impossibility, the color is bad,and the lips are sensuous. Dr. Bimmer once attended a party where there was a celebrated performer on theflute, who entertained the company with the music of that instrument. The doctor,who played well, was also asked to contribute, but declined, saying, One lion for aparty is enough. Dr. Bimmer studied people with apparently unconcerned persistency, taking advan-tage of every opportunity which presented itself.
