DescriptionBeattock Summit - geograph.org.uk - 56523.jpg |
English: Beattock Summit. This is the summit of the climb over the Southern Hills from Carlisle in the south and Glasgow in the north. This shows the M74 in the background behind the railway, which marks the 1033 feet summit with a lineside sign. Once a struggle for steam engine crews, today's modern electric trains crest the top as if the climb hardly exists. In the left background the cut-out in the trees skirts the site of a Roman military camp. Taken from the adjacent B7076 looking north-east |
