English: Beinn nan Caorach The massive ice-smoothed crag at the top of this view (but not the top of the hill) marks the main thrust in the Outer Hebrides Fault Zone. The lower rocks among the heather are gneiss which has been reworked during the Laxfordian deformations about 1700 million years ago. The crag above them is undeformed gneiss which was thrust over the Laxfordian about 400 million years ago. |
