Description
English: Category:Images of Canberra

The three towers of the Belconnen Naval Transmitting Station at Lawson in the Belconnen district of Canberra were felled on Wednesday 20 December 2006.

The western tower was felled at 3.24pm, the central and eastern towers at 4.07pm.

These 600ft tall towers formed the support structure for the 44kHz VLF top-loaded vertical antenna.

The station was built, and the VLF transmitter commissioned, in 1938.

The tower in the far background is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's "2CN" broadcast radio tower.
