English: Pulpit of the Inner City (Saint Peter of Alcantara) Franciscan Church in Budapest, Baroque woodwork c. 1740, small changes in 1853 (replaced stairs and parapet, repainted surfaces), the crown of the abat-voix with the Tablets of Stone was added in 1926. The pulpit was restored in 1981-84. The surface is imitating red and grey marble with gilt decorations. Iconography: 12 apostles standing in shell-headed niches (on the parapet of the pulpit and the stairs) including the Four Evangelists who are holding books in their hands except John with a chalice, arm holding a cross; IHS Christogram (rear wall); dove, Tablets of Stone (abat-voix). |
