English: Albert Edwin (Bert) Roberts:

Bert was an Ipswich coachbuilder by trade, but a true renaissance man at heart. Bert’s interests included geology, music, Aboriginal culture, nature and the modern technology of the early 1900s. His broad interests and love of life are reflected in the many photographs he took.

Queensland Museum holds over 1000 of Bert Roberts’ plate glass negatives and prints from the era.

The Roberts family records indicate that Albert Edward Roberts was born in Birmingham, England, in 1854.Albert married Sarah Ann Hirons in 1875 Edgbaston Country Warwick England They had Six sons: Albert Edwin Roberts (known as Bert) was also born in Birmingham in 1878, William Augustus born 1880 George Henry born 1883 Alfred Horatio born 1887 Norman Victor born 1889Harry Leopold Dunbar, born 1891 all born in Ipswich Qld. The Roberts family migrated to Queensland (Australia) in 1880 on board the Dunbar Castle arriving at South Brisbane.

Bert was a prolific photographer whose work is being shared on Wiki Commons. Bert married Florence Sarah Roberts in 1907. They had Five children who led long and interesting lives: Norman William (1908), George Alexander (1909), Florence Ivy (1912) and Don (John Edwin) 1916. ,Trevor Moreton (1922), did not survive infancy.
