English: Beside the path, resting? I had thought that this dragonfly was dying because I was able to get really close to it for 3 or 4 macro shots over several minutes and because of the condition of its lower right wing. Hugh Venables tells me that "this insect may be perfectly healthy ... dragonflies struggle to fly when it is cool or shady. It is not unusual to be able to get close to them under these conditions ... only for them to fly off strongly when the sun re-appears." The weather that day was overcast but quite mild. He continues: "The species is Migrant Hawker - typically flies late in the year. They are quite long-lived insects - a species this size will probably spend at least 2 years in the larval stage underwater - though the adult stage doesn't last long, 1-3 months generally."
