| Description |
English: Bethel AME Church, 1525 Michigan Avenue at East Ferry Street, March 2020. Founded in 1831, Bethel is the oldest black religious congregation in Buffalo, predating Michigan Street Baptist Church by six years. Like its counterpart, Bethel's original home on Vine Alley once served as a station on the Underground Railroad. Since 1953, they've worshiped in the former Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Cold Spring, a Gothic-style building erected in 1903; the former congregation merged with Lebanon Presbyterian Church of Northampton Street which folded in 1966. |
