English: Bhaisajyaguru and Assembly tempera painting on mud mixed with seeds, straw, and leaves Ming Dynasty Shanxi Province China. The central figure, Bhaisajyaguru, is the healing or Medicine Buddha associated with longevity and guards against untimely death, nightmare, evil apparitions, vicious animals, robbers, thieves, and invading states. The Bodhisattvas of the Moon and Sun, identified by the aureroles or circular lights around their heads, for a triad with the Buddha. The Buddha is also accompanied by his Twelve Guardian Generals who represent the Buddha's twelve vows.
