Português: A casa onde atualmente é a sede da biblioteca foi considerada a mais rica e imponente do centro histórico em 1864. Foi erguida para abrigar a família do coronel Manoel Martins, rico mercador que ganhava dinheiro na navegação. Na época, o primeiro porto da Cidade Juliana, ficava há poucos quarteirões da residência.
English: The house where the library is currently located was considered the richest and most imposing in the historic center of Laguna in 1864. It was built to house the family of Colonel Manoel Martins, a wealthy merchant who made money from shipping. At the time, the first port of Laguna, was a few blocks from the residence.
