Summary edit

Description
English: Billy Fury Statue, Albert Dock, Liverpool The Billy Fury sculpture can be seen overlooking the River Mersey, outside the Piermaster's House in the Albert Dock. This is an appropriate location as Billy (Ronnie Wycherley) worked as a deck hand on the Mersey tug boat The Formby for two years. He had to give this job up due to rheumatic fever. He taught himself to play the guitar and write songs from an early age, and was able to make this his career. He wrote all the ten songs on his first album, 'The Sound of Fury'. Unfortunately his health problems caught up with him, and he suffered a fatal heart attack in January 1983 and died at the age of only 42. The floral tributes on his statue indicate his continuing popularity. This statue was commissioned by ‘The Sound of Fury’ fan club and made by Liverpool sculptor Tom Murphy in 2003.
