dl. \\ A FEEDING-DEVICE Mr. J. P. Poland, of Springfield, Mass.,writes that he has had very great successwith the specially constructed feeding-device for birds which he has now had inoperation for over a j^ear. He says that itis built around a chestnut log 8 inches indiameter, and i8 inches long. A hole goesthrough the log lengthwise, large enoughfor a 5^-inch eye-bolt, the eye upon theupper or roof end and a nut and washerupon the lower end. A long hook passesthrough the eye on the roof and hooks intoa wire ring which encircles the limb of a large white ash tree above. There aretwenty-eight holes in the log, i^ inches indiameter hy lyi inches deep, into whichmelted suet has been poured. Upon thefloor of the booth various kinds of seedand grain are scattered. The booth is 36inches long, 36 inches wide, 16 inches highat the eaves, and 22 inches at the peak. The two sides and one end are covered witha double thickness of burlap. The frontis left open and can be slatted to keep outCrows.
