The photo reproduced is of my previous bird, sincebeing set up, the attitude is true to life ; and portrays its fineform and markings very strikingly, as perhaps would not bepossible from a photo of the living bird. 125 Gbe IRibbon jfmcb. (Amadina fasciata). By Aviculturist. Also known as the Cutthroat, Rrd-Bandsd, Red-Throated and Coral-Necked Finch. This common but pretty species is 4J inches long; tail rinch. It is stoutly built, and so well known as to scarcely needdescription. Briefly, the general colour of its plumage is severalshades of fawn or golden brown, but each feather is more or lesspencilled with white and black, imparting an undulated or scaledappearance to the plumage of the undersurface ; beak, legs, andfeet dull flesh colour. The male is further distinguished by acirclet of ruby on the throat extending from ear to ear, and apatch of very dark brown or chocolate on the abdomen, thicklyinterspersed with white spots. They are very common in Western and South WesternAfrica, where they are the bete ?ioire of the millet growers onaccount of their partiality to that seed, visiting the fields in largeflocks and doing considerable damage.
