Kfl O -A ^. May ill My Aiiarics. 99 May 2^til.—Algerian Chaffinch hatched. I had removedtwo of her es^.^s and put them under the Stripe-headed Grosbeakien. whose own egi^s were infertile. The nestHngs w^ere uglylittle things and were covered with long white down. Theyonly lived three days, as neither the hen Chaffinch nor the hen(irosbeak seem to be able to find suitable food for them,ilthougli they brooded them very carefully, even after the poorlittle things were dead. May 2fitli.—Misto Seed-finch laid. The nest was in apatch of grass and not very well hidden. It is lucky that theweasel is defunct. May 26th.—2 Peacock Pheasants hatched. May 2jth.—Californian Quail sitting. Golden-breastedBunting missing. May 2Stli.—Alanchurian Pheasant sitting nine eggs. May 2pfJi.—Alistle Thrush hatched three commonThrushs eggs.
