4 of 5 stars for Birk's Restaurant in Santa Clara, CA. You want steak? I mean you want SERIOUS steak? This is the place for you! Birk's is a modern open-style restaurant with the dining area in the same open space as the bar. Lots of chrome and glass plus white table cloths. I was co-hosting a group of visiting Japanese business persons and the decision was to take them for a meal-they'd-remember -forever.Birk's fit that image and so 14 of us arrived (with advanced reservations). The entire place was packed (week night around 6) including the bar and dining area. For the group we mostly ordered the small FiletM and a few had a NYSteak. We had Sterling Vineyards Merlot which was wonderful. The service was prompt, friendly and professional. Food was promptly prepared and delivered. Sidebar, since food is served in Japan pre-cut, try to imagine the look on several faces when very large steak knives were delivered before the main course. To me, the meals were higher priced than I'd prefer. OK, the food does measure-up to the price. I was reminded that to get a steak dinner like this in Japan would be over $200 a plate. OK, so I'll live with the price (giving 4 of 5 stars due to the price). |
