| Description | "Honigschlecker" (honey eater) putto in Birnau pilgrimage church, Germany. The putto refers to St. Bernard of Clairvaux who was called doctor mellifluus ("the teacher with words like honey") for his eloquence in preaching. The stucco statue which was created by J.A. Feuchtmayer around 1750 ist one of, if not the, best known and an excellent example of his famous technique to give his stuccos an alabaster-like gloss. |
