English: Iraqi journalists participated in an overflight of southern Iraq coordinated by 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division "Highlander" Public Affairs and the U.S. State Department's Muthanna Provincial Reconstruction Team. The journalists were able to film the impacts of drought in Muthanna province. Additionally, they captured rare aerial views of cities and villages along the Euphrates River. The three-hour flight included slow-orbits of the ancient Ziggurat of Ur and the Uruk ruins. The house of Abraham is believed to be located at Ur. The Epic of Gilgamesh, the legendary Sumerian King, is set in Uruk. The Highlander Brigade is deployed from Fort Bliss, Texas, to advise and assist Iraqi security forces and collaborate with U.S. State Department Provincial Reconstruction Teams to enhance civil capacity and essential services for Iraqi people. |
