Summary edit

Description
English: Blaenau Ffestiniog Station Slate drew the railways to Blaenau Ffestiniog and three routes at one time converged on the town. Two still do: the former LMS route from Llandudno Junction and the Ffestiniog Railway from Porthmadog; they now meet here on the site of the former Great Western Railway station whose route from Bala Junction closed in 1960. In fact, this station has only operated in this form since 1982 when the narrow gauge Ffestiniog railway was reopened (having closed in 1946) and British Rail passenger services were extended the short distance from the former LMS station (Blaenau Ffestiniog North) to serve the new interchange. That was only possible because BR had decided in the early 1960s that the most economical way to serve Trawsfynydd Power Station would be to build a new connection between the North station and the former GW station (Blaenau Ffestiniog Central), rather than maintain the route all the way from Ruabon purely for nuclear flask traffic.
