Summary edit
DescriptionBode Museum Winged altarpiece with saints and the 14 holy helpers - ca. 1500 1294b merged.jpg |
English: I suppose "um 1500" can be taken as 16th century. We see a couple of saints with their attributes. The painmting is from Schwäbisch Hall" in Franken. As for the helpers: "The Fourteen Holy Helpers (German: Vierzehn Nothelfer, Latin: Quattuordecim auxiliatores) are a group of saints venerated together by Roman Catholic Christians because their intercession is believed to be particularly effective, especially against various diseases. This group of Nothelfer ("helpers in need") originated in the 14th century at first in the Rhineland, largely as a result of the epidemic (probably of bubonic plague) that became known as the Black Death.
