Description

El convento fue fundado en 1520 por el prior de Xunqueira de Ambía Don Alonso de Piña, promotor y mecenas de numerosas empresas artísticas del siglo XVI. En el año 1523 se establecieron los franciscanos. El edificio mantiene en pie la iglesia y el claustro, que responden a tipologías y formas del primer renacimiento, aunque también conserva elementos góticos postmedievales: cubriciones de crucería, abundancia de decoración de grutescos y cardinas en las portadas y arquerías que acerca este edificio a formas utilizadas coetáneamente por el arte "isabelino" desarrollado en Castilla y "manuelino" en Portugal.
