English: Bowmansville United Methodist Church, 5342 Genesee Street, Bowmansville, New York, November 2020. Sporting an understated yet refined Late Greek Revival design, the church building dates to c. 1858 and, in the words of Stanley Keysa of the Lancaster Historical Society, "evidences the clean and simple, geometric proportioning of Methodist churches of the pre-Civil War era". Over a foundation of locally quarried Onondaga limestone rubble rises a handsome brick building with a symmetrical façade, Classical pediments serving as gables above both the roofline and the projecting entrance vestibule, rectangular lintels and windowsills of cut limestone framing the 1905 stained-glass windows, and a central steeple topped with a bell-shaped copper dome faced in shingles and bookended by engaged Doric pilasters that imitate the design favored by Minard Lafever, with whose contemporaneous work in the field of ecclesiastical architecture the unnamed designer of this church might well have been familiar. Additional Classical details, such as a dentil row beneath the gable pediment, have unfortunately been lost to subsequent renovations. The Bowmansville Methodist congregation traces its history back to the early to mid-1850s, and has met in this building since its construction.
