editDescriptionBressingham Signal box and Great Eastern Carriage - geograph.org.uk - 1780599.jpg |
English: Bressingham Signal box and Great Eastern Carriage Originally erected at Raydon Wood Station on the Great Bentley to Hadleigh Branch in 1894. Used until 1927, when the passenger service ceased, it was then purchased by a local builder who kept it at a private site. This continued until 1997 when it was offered for sale to Bressingham Museum.
The Signal Box was partially dismantled by Museum staff and volunteers and brought to its present site at the Museum (25th February 1998). The upper floor and roof structure travelled as one piece with the dismantled lower floor stored inside. Rebuilding then commenced on site with only a small amount of new timber being required. The staircase and landing are completely new. The mechanical works came from Oakington Signal Box which was purchased by Bressingham Steam Museum some years ago but unfortunately not rebuilt. Some adaptation was necessary to house the 22 levers in its new frame. Internally and externally, it has been repainted in its original G.E.R. livery. The GER carriage is 379 https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1780578 |
