The Bridge of Sighs, the connecting arch over Ross Street between the Allegheny County Courthouse and the Jail. Detainees were transferred from the jail through the archway to courtrooms in the courthouse for hearings and trails. The Allegheny County Courthouse, designed by Brookline, Massachusetts, architect H.H. Richardson in the Romanesque style, was built between 1884 and 1888. |
