DescriptionBridge on Avon Valley Railway - geograph.org.uk - 1763769.jpg |
English: Bridge on Avon Valley Railway. This railway was once part of the Midland Railway, being the branch line from Mangotsfield to Bath. It was opened on 4th August 1869. This triple arch bridge does not seem to span anything so I do not understand why it was built, or why the arches are at an angle. Did the River Boyd go under it before the 1968 flood? The Avon Valley Railway web site in the history section says "The River Boyd is crossed by a stone bridge of three arches, followed by a longer bridge over the River Avon". If anyone knows please contact me.
The Avon Valley green train is a Polish locomotive. |
