| Description |
English: Bridge on the Breckland Line. This bridge takes the Breckland Line (linking with Norwich/Norfolk) over a continuation of Queen Adelaide Way which runs from the A142 Ely-Soham-Newmarket road north to the B1382. Here the road runs parallel with the River Great Ouse, a short distance south-west of the level crossing on the B1382 > 1618491. Due to the low bridge in the photo, the only way for lorries to get to Potter Distribution Depot > 1618519 is to use Queen Adelaide Way from the A142 road.
A steel girder bridge > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1618511 carries the railway over the river from here. The road seen turning off in the foreground (right) is a private road leading to Dairy Farm > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1618545. Ely North Junction is located at Queen Adelaide, approximately one-and-a-half miles north of Ely station. From Ely North Junction the electrified ex-GER London-Kings Lynn mainline runs north to Littleport, Downham Market and Kings Lynn. Two non-electrified double-track lines branch at North Junction: one diverges northeast to Norwich (it is marketed as "Breckland Line") and the other northwest to March and Peterborough where there are connections to the East Coast Mainline (ECML) to Scotland and the route to Birmingham. |
