English: British Minesweeper H.M.S Middleton visits Salford Quays & Lowry A visit by a British Warship to its home town of Salford Manchester.
Moored at the side of the Lowry on the Manchester ship canal where thousands of tons of shipping have off loaded cargo over the last 100 years or so, this inland port saved many days of road or rail delays by bringing the goods right into the heart of Manchester by the canal rather than off load 30 miles away at the coastal port of Liverpool. This area is now a major tourist attraction with many shops, bars, cafés, cinemas, theatre and hotels not to mention the Imperial War Museum of the North, with FREE ADMISSION. |
