English: Tile, gold on glass, from the site of a church at Ma'arrat al-Numan, Syria, 900-1000.

Gold on glass is a gold leaf enclosed within two layers of glass. This Roman technique was continued in Egypt and Syria into the Islamic era. Similar tiles with similar patterns were found in Palestine in Byzantine context.
