Je répète donc, après tous les docteurs, que lorigine de Bruxelles se perd dans lanuit des temps, doù il résulte que ses annalistes en sont réduits à discuter des conjec-tures. Son nom même a été écrit de vingt façons diverses et également barbares,dont la plus curieuse est Bructcrsele, orthographe imaginée il y a quarante ans par CHAPITRE PREMIER. 43 Mc Spinnael, avocat, en vue de démontrer que Bruxelles fut la capitale desBructères (1). Ce juriste, égaré dans létymologie, alla jusquà illustrer sa dissertation du portraitauthentique dun Bructère faisant caracoler son cheval et tenant au bout de sa lancela tète dun ennemi vaincu.
