English: IN COLLABORATION WITH DESIGNER RODRIGO ALMEIDA
In our first Project together, initially we pictured an abstract object rather than a functional one, and decided upon experimenting with bubble wrap as a starting point. Handling this material brought us several memories, such as the childish pleasure of popping the bubbles and its relation to the contemporary pop culture, like the Brazilian priest who took flight (and died) assisted by balloons, and the bubble boy, very reported back in the 1970s. We soon realized that the bubbles and its ethereal translucency guided us to a immateriality of thoughts. The bubble wrap was, from the beginning, tested in a very intuitive manner; we ended up learning a lot about our own creative process as we made our way through the experiments. The bubble wrap made us and our very distinct creative personalities grow closer. We followed a path which lead us, and the bubbles, to an universe which was oneiric and fantastic. No drawings were made, nor any other predetermined parameter; we obeyed the wills and stimuli of this material. As we discussed and handled the material, the static perfection of the bubble wraps standing up rolled caught our attention. By piling them up we were able to create both volume and resistance, in the manner of a designed sculpture. Through this intuitive and non-linear process, we achieved something which combined us and overcame by far all of our style choices and personal researches. With all pieces scrambled, we picked them up randomly and finally reach the crossing point of our work. All the pieces come together perfectly just as though they had always been there; these bubbles certainly seem to have the urge to fly |
