Nicht nur die geografische Lage verbindet die Gemeinde Mühlrose und den Tagebau Nochten. Viele der Bürger dieser kleinen deutsch-sorbischen Gemeinde arbeiten im Großtagebau. Für die Verbesserung der Lebensbedingungen der Bürger fühlen sich der Betrieb und staatliche Organe gleichermaßen verantwortlich. Ein gemeinsaem Projekt, der erweiterte Konsum, fand viel Anerkennung.
