| Description |
English: View of a burial at sea of of Lieutenant Commander Omar R. Ford, USN, aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA-34) on 6 November 1966. LCdr Ford was one of 44 officers and men who lost their lives in the fire aboard the Oriskany on 26 October 1966. Following the fire during operations in the Gulf of Tonkin, Oriskany departed departed Subic Bay, Philippines, on 3 November. The burial was held en route to San Diego, California (USA). Note Oriskany's insignia on the light-colored flag, at right. Three destroyers are steaming alongside, USS Chevalier (DD-805), USS Gurke (DD-783) and a Fletcher-class destroyer. |
