Description
English: Burmese Gemstone Art

These are, paintings created with gemstones. They are created by selecting uncut precious stones, usually from the Mogok Mines, (ruby, sapphire, jade, and peridot) to match the colours of an original painting. These paintings are of a traditional theme, which includes pagodas, landscapes and Buddhist images.

The gems are crushed into bits or a powder, sieved, and then sorted. The pieces are then glued on so as to get the right colour, tone and shade. These paintings can be found in markets in Mandalay and Yangon.
