Summary edit

Description
English: Burstwick Drain, Burstwick, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Burstwick Drain and the southern end of the newly extended Burstwick Country Golf Course, looking east-northeast from Hall Bridge on the B1362. Burstwick Drain and other smaller drains were unable to cope with the huge volume of water being channelled south and west towards the River Humber after recent heavy rains. The drains overflowed onto the surrounding farmland creating a shallow lake with very few patches of dry land in between, stretching for almost three kilometres from the greenhouses here at Hall Bridge to the Villa Lane junction on the A1033 between Hedon and Thorngumbald. When this photograph was taken a valiant effort by the fire brigade had managed to lower the water level in nearby Trinity Close by a foot or more, despite the fact that a lack of local knowledge and detailed maps had led them to spend quite a lot of time pumping the water into the drain here at Hall Bridge, effectively feeding it back into the very lake they were trying to get rid of.
