Summary edit

Description

From Rome (Italy), acquired before 1772 Altes Museum Berlin Marble, 130 - 140 AD

On order of the Emperor Hadrian, portraits of the beautiful youth Antinous were distributed across the whole empire after his death. The nicely curled hairstyle became formative for the style of the youth portraits of the successors to the throne from Marcus Aurelius to Caracalla. The modern bust was worked by Cavaceppi in Rome.
