Description

AWIB-ISAW: Bust of Commodus as Hercules This official bust of Emperor Commodus showed him in the guise of Hercules. This close up view allows you to see the intricate drilling of the details in the beard, typical of Antonine portraiture. The incised pupils looking up are supposed to give Commodus the air of a thinking man, a philosopher. by R Rumora (2012) copyright: 2012 R Rumora (used with permission) photographed place: Roma (Rome) pleiades.stoa.org/places/423025
