At Saulieu is a finethough imperfect tower, rather later, and with pointedarches.Abbey of At LvoNS, the Centre of the old Burgundian kingdom, Lyons though the church of Bishop Patiens, which SidoniusApollinaris celebrated in an ode, cannot now be traced,there remains in the church of the abbey of Ainay(Fig. loo) a building of considerable interest, datingfrom the loth and iith centuries but much altered insubsequent ages. The plan is basilican and cruciform,with barrel-vaulted nave and aisles under the same roof.The columns are cylindrical with capitals of a rudeCorinthianizing character. At the east end are threeapses corresponding to the nave and aisles and coveredwith semi-domes.
