Deutsch: Vorderseite: + mIXAHL S ΘE-OΔORA [Michael kai Theodora]. Drapierte Büste des Michael III. mit Krone (l.) und die der Theodora (r.) mit Krone und Stola (loros) in der Vorderansicht. Zwischen ihnen oben ein Kreuz.

Rückseite: IhSUS X-RIStOS [Stern als Legendenabschluß]. Büste des bärtigen Christus im Segensgestus mit Bibel in der l. Hand in der Vorderansicht, hinter ihm ein Kreuz.

Kommentar: Geboren 840 wurde Michael bereits im selben Jahr zum Mitherrscher ernannt und war ab dem 20. Januar 842 offiziell Kaiser des byzantinischen Reiches. Zunächst stand Michael ganz unter dem Einfluß seiner Mutter Theodora, nach deren Ausschaltung im Jahre 856 und 858 erfolgten Verbannung in ein Kloster unter dem des jeweiligen Mitregenten Bardas bzw. Basilius. Letztgenannter ließ zunächst Bardas ermorden und am 23./24. September 867 schließlich Michael III.
