From a manuscript copy ofShanghan diandian jin shu(The Gold-dust Book of Cold Damage) dated '1st year of the Zhengyuan reign period of the Yuan dynasty' (1341), section entitledShanghan diandian jin yongyao muji(Cold Damage Gold-Dust Repertory of Medication).The text states: For treating diseases of cold damage and disharmony of thezangandfuviscera by the balancing method, common prescriptions are: Five-Drug powder (wu ling san), Detoxicating powder (baidu san), ginseng, poria and atractylodes powder (shen ling baizhu san), Gall Bladder Warming decoction (wen dan tang), Wondrous Fragrance powder (miaoxiang san), etc. For cold damage treating malign cold (e han) syndromes by the warming method, common prescriptions are: ginger and aconite decoction (jiang fu tang), Four Retrograde [Cold Extremities] Decoction (sini tang), Five Accumulations powder (wu ji san), Centre-Regulating decoction (li zhong tang), Three Fortifications decoction (san jian tang) etc.
